August, 29, 2015 Rick Robinson Wins at Kokomo

Columbus, Indiana’s Rick Robinson captured his first feature win of the season on Saturday night when the Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Jenmarco.com competed as the support class for Kokomo Speedway’s “Smackdown IV.”

This event was an opportunity to showcase the MTQRL, its drivers and cars in front of its largest crowd of the year and Robinson took full advantage of that by winning both his Perfect North Slopes heat race and the 15-lap feature in his own #12 Precision/Honda three-quarter midget.

Robinson came from his second row starting position to pass early race leader Chris Mann on lap five and cruised to the win over Logan Arnold, Callie Wolsiffer, Ronnie Combs and Mann. Cody Kiewitt, Matt Arrington, Matt Lux, Bret Johnson and Kevin Blue rounded out the top ten.

Wolsiffer’s eighth top ten finish in ten races earned her the Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Race, Matt Lux was the Steed Motorsports Hard Charger, and Rob Walton was the Duane & Sonja Alexander Hard Luck Driver. Arnold won the second Perfect North Slopes heat race and Arrington’s car owner, Terry Minor, received the Jackson Oil & Solvents gift certificate via a random drawing at the drivers meeting.

With just two races remaining in the 2015 season there are only three drivers mathematically alive for the championship, veteran drivers Ronnie Combs and Rick Robinson and rookie Callie Wolsiffer. Combs has led the standings from the first race and heads into September with a 181-point lead over his teammate Wolsiffer, who sits 126 points in front of Robinson.

With just 390 points up for grabs, the MTQRL will crown a first-time champion as its previous titleholders, Tate Martz (2009-2012), Nick Speidel (2013) and Cody Kiewit (2014), have all been mathematically eliminated.

The 2015 season will resume on Saturday, September 5th, for Hoosier Auto Racing Fans (HARF) Night at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Ind. All current HARF members will receive $5 of general admission with a current HARF membership card and photo ID.
